Remote Start Questions
Has anyone ever had an aftermarket remote start put in? I live in Wisconsin and it would be a great option for me as I often have to park outside in the driveway. When I got the truck I opted for the one without remote start for some reason but I would really like one.
Are there any known problems with putting in an aftermarket one and which brand do you recommend? Also I lost the other key and only have one key now, will I need to get another key and is that expensive also? Thanks for any help in advance, I've been looking and most kits are inexpensive so I want to make sure I get the right one.

I put a remote start in mine about 3 months ago. An Avital 4103. And a 556l bypass box. Dosen't require a key. So you don't need to give one up.
If you're in the southeast part of WI I can help you install it.
It took about a day to install. Mounted it under the center console. Dosen't look amazing. But you can't see anything with the panels mounted. Controls my locks, rear glass, and starts up perfect every time.
Cost was about $100.
50 ish for the remote start box.
30 ish for the bypass.
And the rest for misc parts. Relays, solder, and wire.

I got an UNGO from certified radio years back for a pontiac aztek. By the time all the bypasses and passkeys and stuff were in it was almost a thousand bucks... Ill walk outside if i ever have a car without factory remote start. It did mess up 2 times and put the car on theft mode... Certified paid the tow both times and fixed it. They said it was their first aztek ever so it was trial amd error.
I put a cheap on in a cavalier before and it was fairly straightforward. Instructions can be found online. Most od your soldering is in the steering columb

Thanks for the replies guys, Bando1440, you put it in a 1999 Blazer so it should be the same for a 1998 correct? I was doing some research and found that they had updated some of the security features by that point. If you could help me install it that would be pretty awesome.

The security thing was easy to get around. Only 4 wires. I have access to all wiring diagrams for all years. So finding wires won't be guess work. Just alot of sifting through the wiring harness.
There's also a lot of resources on this forum and the12volt.com, such as pinouts, wire locations and other stuff.
What part of wisconsin are you in?
