2nd gen accessory brackets bolt right up to 1st gen engines. Only differences are the bolt threads - one is metric (Newer gen), the other is SAE.

Also, you shouldn't be losing that much MPG's just from A/C running. Maybe half a MPG at MOST. Something is clearly wrong there.

How can you tell a Sanden A/C compressor by looking at it---say in a Salvage yard ?

Exclamation Sanden Compressors are different, need precise fit

There are many many styles of Sanden Compressors, so simply looking for one in a salvage yard will probably not work. Sanden has a catalog with all their models and shapes. What is critical is that it can be mounted in your existing compressor bracket and has an appropriate sized pulley along with proper Clutch Pulley alignment. In my case I removed a GM R4 compressor and used an adapter kit from Dingo to mount the new compressor in the existing compressor bracket. This conversion required specifically sized spacers in a couple of locations to properly line up the Clutch Pulley with the existing equipment (Idler Pulley, Crank Pulley, Power Steering, Fan and Alternator Pulley). This alignment is critical. Different Sanden compressors would align differently even mounted the same way as the distance from the mounting points to the pulley can be different on different Sanden compressors.

Another consideration is the hose connectors out the top of the compressor. I used 90 degree connectors, had to bend the low side down a little to provide enough hood clearance.

I used a Dingo Mounting Kit with a Sanden 4711 compressor. The vehicle is a 94 S10 with Factory Air, 4.3L engine code W. I had to get a longer belt, I believe about 2.5 inches longer than the factory belt.
