Default Shift out of park

I am new to this forum. I just bought a 1998 Jimmy with an automatic trans. The problem I have is lately it will not shift out of park. This problem does not happen everytime but is getting to be a pain. Sometimes it takes a few minutes to finally get it to shift out of park. I am stepping on the brake to shift out. Can someone help me with a solution?

Default RE: Shift out of park

is the truck parked on a hill when it does this? usually when it is parked on an incline eighther forward or backward it will bind up pretty good. also i have noticed on mine that there is a relay sound coming from the dash at times when i press the button on my shifter, of course mine is a floor shift, if yours is a column shift it may or maynot be different. but if it is a relay you might want to check it(if it has one.)
