Towing Question
I am the original owner of a 2000 Blazer with a 6 cylinder, 2 wheel drive automatic and only 90,000 miles. It has the stock factory rear bumper with a ball hitch. My question is what may the bumper be rated for towing maximum weight?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that the bumper hitch is rated for 250lb tongue weight and 2000lb trailer weight. With a proper class III/IV hitch the truck is rated for a 4000lb trailer.

If you have the owner's manual it will tell you what the capacity is for your configuration. As to the bumper it should be listed on the bumper.
Just as an example, I have a class III receiver/hitch with a tow rating of 5600 lbs. I do have 3.73 gears so that could be why I have a fairly decent rating. My bumper is rated at 350 lbs tounge/3500 towing.
Not all Blazers are created equal when it comes to towing. There is also a difference between 2wd and 4wd. Don't use what mine is rated for, you need to find out what yours is rated for.
If you don't have the owner's manual, post up what gears you have and I'll look up in my manual and let you know.

Thanks for your replies fellow members.
I recalled were the owners manual was stashed after all these years. The vehicle is geared at 3.42 with a max trailers weight of 5900.
At first I had concerns about towing. As I want to tow a watercraft 400 miles that weighs about 1600 with trailer. I have 3 speed automatic transmission. The owners manual suggested using gear three to prevent overheating. I did have the transmission and cooling systems flushed and fluids replaced and a new set of calipers and pads all the way around in preparation for the road trip.. Looks to be a go.......

Those were the numbers pulled from the Owners Manual I would not go as far as that either with the weight.
