Replaced the catalytic converter.. also fixed the spare tire cable since it snapped luckily i was only going 25 used a chain to secure it from ever happening again. . Next on the to do list is the are the leafspring bushings. .. thats going to be fun. Lol

 

Fumbling with the four wheel drive for a week or more. It wouldn't engage. I was under the car with a camera and mirror trying to locate the actuator switch that controls the vacuum actuator but no luck. Back and forth from internet photos to under the car, still couldn't find it where it was supposed to be. Finally learned the FWD on demand with the four button switch used a different method for activation. By accident just happened to notice a broken vacuum line on the firewall attached to a vacuum distributor valve. Problem solved by a simple fix that gave me a big headache.

 

Planning to do the front rotors, pads, wires and plugs .this weekend. Got a helluva deal from Advance Auto. Did cap and rotor not too long ago..


Need to get new tires and attempt to fix 4x4 issue...

 

New pads and rotors. Next, sway bar links. The old ones looked old and worn.

 

Replaced starter after almost getting stranded... it did the "everything lights up but no crank dance" in a parking lot. Crawling underneath and banging on the starter got it home... Had a 20% off code from Advance Auto Parts.

The starter is a bit tricky to get out, but it's do-able. Rebuilt one sounds much better.

Replaced my cruise control Servo motor. The cruise control had recently stopped working and I had the suspicion that it was the Servo Control module in the engine compartment. It just so happened that Rock Auto was closing this item out and was a pretty decent close out price. It took me 15 min. to replace and the cruise control works perfect. This in on my 89 S15 Jimmy.

 

Our '89 S10 Blazer is pretty much retired now. Just spent 2 days working on a Volvo 940 I got for next to nothing 15 months ago, 131k miles, leather interior with heated, memory seats, sunroof, etc.. Just have to transfer the plates from it to the Volvo. Definitely can't tow like the Blazer, but it's soooo much of a better driving experience, aside from the lack of power from the 2.3 liter 4-banger ... but that will make it easier to drive in the snow. Thing sat 15 months, buried in 8' of snow this winter, and everything works! Even the sunroof. Amazing.

Had to install the fuel pump that the previous owner shorted out, and then set fire to the harness. A little soldering, and some scrap wires out of the '00 Jimmy, and it's working great again.

The Blazer isn't worth crap up here in this part of the country in the condition it's in, so I'll probably park it out back with the rest of my dead GM products until I find a use for the driveline. I'd love to throw that driveline in the Volvo - that would make that car a blast to drive!

 

On my new to me 2002 Blazer it seemed the headlights were too high. I wanted to align them before going in for inspection. I found this forum and everything I needed to fix the problem. It was all very satisfying!

PO had replaced bulbs but did not insert the lower tabs of the headlight assembly into their slots. So, following instructions found here, I unsnapped the grill (held on by clips only) and I could see where the tabs were not in their slots. On the frame behind the lights (in front of the battery) are two vertical tabs about 6" long. To remove the assembly, pull them up and the it falls out. Put it back, with the lower tabs in their slots. To install, replace the 6" tabs, line up the clips on the grill and push it back into place. DONE!
