I had some time to kill at the shop today so I decided to scope out my secondary ignition. backprobed number one injector for a reference to my coil firing sequence. didn't like what I saw. it seems that my coil is drawing so much power to fire that you can see the voltage drop on my injector waveform as the coil turns itself on, getting ready to fire. the draw is being calculated to be about 8 volts. ( I wonder if this is a reason why my alternator doesn't like to charge in hotter temperatures when I'm using my A/C on max, blower speed on max)- to much demand for a 100 amp alternator. I scoped my boss' truck (97chevy1500,5.0L) to see if the coil operation was the same. Nope, his secondary ignition looked real good, coil pattern was more crisp. backprobed his #1 injector for a reference and to see if he had the same kind of draw. he had a slight draw as the coil fires not when it turned on. his draw was not even a volt. so I will be putting a new coil on it, re-scope it, and post pics of my testings.

Update: replacing the coil solved my problem. instead of the draw as the coil turned on, I now have less than a volt draw when the coil fires. which seems to be a normal pattern. I will be posting my truck in the builds thread soon

today i gave her a much needed drink. managed to stuff 17 1/4 gallons of fuel into it!

did a oil & lube on Sunday. got a super deal on a Pennzoil synthetic package, but had enough of the regular dino for one last service, so i'll do the synthetic switch next month.

soooooooo desperately need to give 'er a bath, but too much damn rain the past 2 weeks.

maybe i'll have the MTO change the colour on my ownership to "Earth tone brown".

Mine needs a bath too. Havent been paying much attention to her lately. But I have treated her well by driving like a grandma, and actually getting more than 3 days to a tank of gas. lol

laid my stereo peices in place to see what I have and need for wiring. I need some more short RCA wires, and some 4GA ground wire, about 4 feet. Thinking about adding another puck of that cooling system sealer to see if I can quash that last of that rad leak.
