I did nothing to the Jimmy but reading today. I did a lot of reading around, and Help from Chris, and I am going to delete the remote oil filter on it, I do not want to deal with Changing the oil filter lines to the block. It will be a simple job, already have the part number for the oil filter that will fit on there perfectly as well. One less thing for me to worry about.

Now all I have left is...
Replace the pinion bearing and seal
replace rear wheel speed sensor so the ABS will work
Replace the TCC (still no replies to that post)
And either fix vacuum leak or replace 4wd actuator

Oh the joys if buying a truck advertised as a fixer upper lol
that reminds me,NEVER BUY AFTER-MARKET vac switch for transfer case.
tried 2 then got GM,,problem solved...98 GMC jimmy....

Just got a 12,000 lb winch from Harbor Fright, on sale for 300 bucks. 12,000 lb is a little over kill but for 300 bucks why go for less. Looks like a lot of room behind the front bumper on my 89 Jimmy for mounting. May go with a class 3 hitch set up front and back and winch basket. Any thoughts?

Thanks i may just do that it would be more reliable and less expensive. There's a layer of ice on the ground here and i have to make an 80 mile trip one way to my sisters house to fix her AWD Honda Passport the front CV axle has to be replaced. So for now i just got through pulling the battery box and zip tired the actuator to lock it in for today. Now for the fun and cold.

cant rich. the 4x4 1st gens body is too close to the trans and you'd have to pull the trans to get to it. I already looked at my 91 i had. wouldnt work without moving trans.

I've read that you can loosen the trans form the crossmember and push the trans sideways enough to gain access. I have no personal experience with this I just rememeber reading it somehwere.
