Mine is an '01 2Dr with the dropgate (tailgate) option.

My owner and repair manuals both mention the dropgate and the liftgate options so that would lead me to believe both were available on 2Dr and 4Dr models. I have seen a couple of 2nd Gen 2Dr around here with the liftgate, but the dropgate appears to be more popular.

My 89 Jimmy is a tailgate and my 2000 Jimmy is a lift gate. I like both for the reasons mentioned earlier.

Since owner & repair manuals are shared between both 2dr & 4dr models, it would be completely understandable that it would list both the tailgate & liftgate options. That does not mean that there were 2dr liftgate vehicles. Everything I have ever read suggests that the liftgate option was only available on the 4dr versions. If you can find otherwise, please post a picture.

Yes, I agree as your statement about the books covering assorted models makes sense. As I previously stated though, I have seen a couple of 2Dr 2nd Gen around town that have a liftgate rather than a tailgate. If I happen to have my camera with me next time I see one I'll definitely take a picture for you.

A look at the available lift support options at Autozone also verifies the existance of a tailgate or liftgate option on a 2nd Gen 2Dr model:

At the top of the list is part #D95544 which is for an '01 2Dr with tailgate. If you scroll down to the 4th listing of part #95744 it is for an '01 2Dr with liftgate.

Liftgate. Good cover when loading stuff in rain or tailgating at a game.

01BlackBeauty, I would take the descriptions found on parts websites with a grain of salt. They often are not accurate. Please read what I wrote. I never said it isn't possible, just that everything I have read suggests that they were 4dr only. If you can prove otherwise, please do.
