I just bought a 97 LT.
There was a squeak in the belt and i got it replaced took the noise away for a day and now its back. seems like it is from the tensioner but im not too sure. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem
I am also having an issue with my brakes. They squeal like a ****. i have no idea what the problem is.
Im a former hondaboy so i know nothing about Chevs. so any help would be great.

Ok as for the tensioner, I had that problem. Take the belt off and get a very low grade sandpaper and just scuff it up slightly. This will take away THAT noise, drove me nuts till I did that. Its like it got too smooth or something!
As for the brakes, they might just be cheap brakes that were installed. I had that trouble too. Is there a LOT of brake dust?? Also might want to check to see how much wear they have. The pads have little tabs on them that squeals when they get too low, even when your foot is NOT on the brakes!
Hope that helps ya... Let me know.

sometimes the really long lasting brake pads are such a hard compound that they squeek also. I had them, they lasted two years instead of one, but they were annoying. As Dory said, cheap brake pads can do the same thing. Try pulling the wheels off, there might be a buildup of brake dust you can clean out.

ok i took it in and they said that the bottom seal on my water pump is dry and causing the creaking. I asked them to put a new seal in and they said that you cant, you have to buy a whole new water pump. does that sound right? cause it doesnt to me.

Water pumps are an expensive replacement if the shop does it. I have had a few go bad and by that i mean that I replaced them only after they start leaking water.
If it is cooling properly, I'd just live with the noise a while.

Waterpumps are not servicable, they are just replaced. You could try to spray it down with wd40 or another rubber softening agent, but it may make the waterpump leak.
