Default Compressor for A/C

Anyone know if this is something that I could easily change myself? It is getting really hot here in Kansas, and the guy I bought the blazer from never ran it for two years. I know it's going to have to be bled, and recharged, but since the compressor hasn't been run in so long, aren't the odds of it failing and not working very high? If I have to replace it, could it be something I could do myself, or do I need a HVAC guy to do it?

Its not too hard replacing it, and its really not difficult if the system is already empty. If its not then you'll need to vacuum it out at both sides. But if its not broke I, why fix it? I bought the r134 kit at Harbor Freight for $30 bucks vacuumed the system and recharged with a couple cans of 134 from Walmart. Our local Napa garage will do the same thing for 89.99 plus they'll pressure test it to check for leaks. Just keep in mind if its not empty that system is under high pressure so becareful.

well, I know it's already been converted, but when I turn the A/C on, all she blows is extremely hot air.... how can I test to see if the compressor is still good, and all I would need to do is recharge?

The compressor/clutch will not function if the systems is low on refrigerant. So quickest and easiest thing to do is have the system evac'd and refilled. If that doesn't work then you can start nailing down what needs fixed. Theres a write up on this forum somewhere on how to jump the clutch to make sure its working properly. Search for that.
