Default locked in 4wd

Hi my son has a 2000 blazer. He backed out a parking spot and the truck went in 4wd, he pushed the buttons and it would come out. Even though he didn't use the 4wd it went in an is locked there. The dealer told him it was the controll module and that it cost round 1400.00 to replace. Well we don't have the money to pay for this. Someone mentioned that we should be able to get it out of 4wd by doing something to the tranny. But not sure what we ned to do. So i have 2 questions;

the first is; is it possible that it is somthing else causeing the problem besides the control unit? What ever that is.

the second; does anyone know what we can do to get it out of 4wd so he can atleast drive it.

thanks for you help

Default RE: locked in 4wd

first thing I would do is check the fuse. mine did the same thing, and it was the fuse blowing due to the switch in the dash dying. cost me 40 bucks at stealership to get new switch. there are a couple different things you can try for unlocking 4wd. reverse for a while on a road, but not sure if they work at all.
