Default is this normal???

ok so the last couple days, my truck had been make a real loud screeching noise on the front left wheel area, i assumed it was the caliper locked up so i figured no big deal i'll get it fixed....well yesterday went to get it fixed and my mechanic said the caliper is fine but my bearings were shot and he was suprised my wheel didn't fall off?!?!? so i ended up paying an arm and a leg for a new rotor and hub assembly. It's all good now, but do you think this will happen again down the road?? i'm 100 percent sure it's cuz of my 22's...but i don't wanna sacrafice down grading the wheels if this can be prevented another way

Def not normal. I had a bad wheel bearing, but it made a loud humming sound when turning at moderate to high speeds. It occured when turning the wheel to the left which meant that the front right wheel bearing was shot. Did you experience anything like this? Mine never made a loud screaching noise. Like you, I would have guessed that you had an issue with your brakes or calipers. I changed out my wheel bearing myself. I think that I got it for around 80 or 90 from Advance Auto.

If you have found a wheel bearing for 80 or 90 please let everyone know, because the advance auto parts in my area wants 146.00 for theirs, and just recently I was lucky to find a " hub assembly for 106.00. If this price is true please let us know because I will gladly pay you the cost plus shipping, I do need another one for the drivers side

Well, here's how that went. First off, I bought mine back in the summer of 2003. Advance had two different wheel bearing assemblies. One was around 140 or so, and they had a cheaper one that was like 80 or 90. They were all out of the cheaper one, so the guy at the store sold me the more expensive one for the price of the cheaper model. I was just in the right place at the right time and ended up getting a good deal. I would gladly help you out if I could, but that was sort of a once in a lifetime sort of deal I got. Sorry I can't help.
