Default removing driveshaft

has anyone ever removed the rear driveshaft and drove around with the front wheel drive only (4hi mode). I'm trying to attribute my strange vibrations and grinding noise to either the front or rear drivetrain. So I'm wondering if removing the rear driveshaft (temporarly) will be ok or will I loose to much tranny fluid?

same question for the front driveaxels. Can they be temporarly removed so that the front diff is not moving at all in 2hi mode?

2000 balzer 4x4
Thank you

Default RE: removing driveshaft

I am currently driving without the front driveshaft. I was hoping to gain a little MPG sinsce I haven't done any offroading so far this year. I also removed the 10A 4wd fuse.

You wil not loose tranny fluid if you remove the rear shaft. If fact, it should be removed if it is not flatbedded.

Try drivng it both ways. Hopefully you'll isolate the problem. Good luck.

Yes, with that car on an incline and the rear drive shaft removed, you will leak transmission fluid.
