Tranny problems
Another question about my 1988 V-6 Blazer (automatic):
On a cold start the Overdrive, "(D)", selection will not catch. Trying to drive in that gear will only rev the engine. Ocassionally if it revs high enough and long enough (20 seconds+) it will catch. So, I've been driving in the non-overdrive gear selection, the regular "D".
It seems that I only have to start off in D and once I make it to 2nd gear I can go to (D) just fine. I'll drive around town in these gears and then put it into (D) when I'm on the highway.
Another odd thing about it is that once the truck has been driving for 5 minutes or so I can just drive in (D). I can come to a complete stop, let the truck start in 1st gear, and it will go just fine. However, try that when it first starts and it just revs.
Any thoughts?

RE: Tranny problems
is it dropping out of gear when it's supposed to go into overdrive, or just staying in third? the newer blazers, at least, won't go into OD/lockup when cold until things are near operating temperature.

RE: Tranny problems
(D) = overdrive
D = Normal Drive
When in (D) it wont start moving from a dead stop. It only revs. You have to go into D to start moving. Once moving (15 mph or so)however you can switch to (D) and drive just fine. After warming up the car is able to move from a dead stop in (D) no problem.
