Default Dual exhaust options for 87 K5 Blazer

Hi All -

I just picked up an 87 K5 Blazer with a 350 for my son, and it has a single exhaust. We'd like to install dual exhaust, but I'm having trouble finding setups for this year. I see that Flowmaster seems to offer only a single exhaust setup.

Does anyone have suggestions for who offers a good dual exhaust kit for this year? Also, will we need to pick up a second cat converter and run one on each of the pipes if we install the duals? We have emissions testing going back 25 model years in our area, so the truck will have to pass the sniffer.

Thanks in advance for suggestions.

Rainer

If you have testing, you will definitely need to install a second cat.

Given that, I would recommend finding a local exhaust shop to make it up for you. I haven't ever liked the fitment of many of the kits I have attempted to use in the past. I had to do a lot of rework on the Hooker Competition kit I put on my '74.

x2 i had a shop do mine custom because the fit is going to be better.

also IMO i wouldn't go over 3" diameter exhaust pipe

You only need one cat if you do a single 3" pipe to the muffler and then use a dual out 2.25" or 2.5" muffler for the look of duals. It'll perform similar either way, 3" single would be easier and cheaper to do. I'd suggest getting a new cat anyways, being an 87 the cat is probably pretty clogged with years of use and could be on it's way out soon so i'd replace it now while you're down there instead of later.

Btw on those TBI motors, I like Magnaflow and Spintech Pro Streets the best.
