Dumped exhaust?
I need to put turn downs off of the FM40s on my K5. Right now they get a little whistle to them when lightly on the throttle. I think turn downs would quite it down quite a bit.
When I read the title, I immediately thought of open exhaust (ie. dumped after the headers).
Here's what my K5 sounded like with open headers:

I consider dumped to be open muffler, as in no piping after the muffler at all, so I say it's dumped out of the muffler. When the exhaust has a turndown I call it turned down at the axle, but you could call that dumped too, not really a true official definition.
But I don't like the drone you most always get with it dumped before the axle, I prefer a full tailpipe but cut off flush with the body so it's hidden. On my truck I have cowboy cut tips, as it angled out the side in front of the passenger rear tire and since it's not bouncing off the ground and the truck, it doesn't drone near as bad as it would be dumped. Also, think about the fact that Flowmasters and chambered mufflers in general are known to be the worst type for drone, imagine how much there will be dumped.

Sorry to ressurect this thread but what about the Flowmaster 10 series, designed for race cars? It's pretty much a single chamber muffler like the CB extreme I have on my truck. Just thought I'd add this for anybody searching exhausts on here in the future.

I think they're too loud, not enough tone or rumble. I like there to be a deep tone to my exhaust, if that means it has to be a bit quieter than i'd like then so be it.
But getting back to the topic, got the exhaust done on that 96 Silverado 4.3, ended up buying a Thrush Welded muffler, which is just like a Flowmaster 40 inside and instead of using the 2.25" tail or getting a new one, I had the guy run it out the side in front of the rear tire, a small 2.5" pipe and it ends right under the bed side so it's hidden unless you bend down to look at it, otherwise you wouldn't know it's there. It sounds great, but a little quiet, the cat on the truck it rattling since I think it's breaking up inside, after 260k miles it'll do that so i'm gonna have a Thunderbolt highflow installed and it should sound good, pretty agressive at that point.
