Pipe is cheap, if your set on 3" duals, I would reccommend buying your 3" mufflers, reduce the pipe down to 2.25 or 2.5" then back up into your mifflers,

drive it for a while then replace it with 3" pipes and see if You notice a difference?

only thing i can think of.....

or seeing as those mufflers have vertually no restriction, run headers to 3" open pipes for a while and 2.25 or 2.5" for a while... then get your mufflers when you convince yourself one is better

Myself, I would run dual 2.25 on an almost stock 350.... 2.5 on a mildly modded one and dual 3" on a big block :P

I do think youre right about the size of the pipes for performance, or at minimum, the 3" certainly isnt going to give me any more power or anything like that... makes sense...

I'm only looking at it from a "sound" perspective, and it's been my experience that 3" equals a deep, throaty tone... 2.5 is kinda deep, but nothing like the 3", and 2.25" might be loud, but it's a "raspy", tinny loud sound... and I want deep, low, loud. -

Your idea of running the straight pipes for a few days since pipe is cheap, is an excellent idea, and that, I might just do!!!! that is a very good idea, and hadn't thought of that!!!!!

Have a Great Christmas everyone!!!!!
