i put an intake and exhaust on my 97 and the check engine light came on for a while but turned its self off... i think, and i could be wrong, that the light came on and the system got used to having more air coming in and going out and turned off. i did have a mechanic check to see what code was throwing and it was an O2 sensor. i think it was bank 1 sensor 2, if i remember right.

vicskim1, please keep all of your problems to your thread; I Really Need Some HELP!!!

To the original question, no, these things should not cause the check engine light to come on so long as all of the sensors and systems are in use. IE. If the vehicle came with the AIR (air injection reaction) pump, you will need headers that no only include the EGR fitting, but also the AIR pump flange or the PCM will yell at you for insufficient AIR pump flow rate (or something to that affect).

There are a few things that may cause the CEL to illuminate initially and then go off, but the engine passing more air through it will not cause this.

As always, there is the potential whenever you work on your vehicle to damage the wiring or a sensor, especially when you are replacing components that require the removal of said sensors. There is also the possibility of getting a sensor dirty, hindering its ability to properly inform the PCM of what is going on with the engine. And that may pass with some use.

Make sure all your sensors stay clean....It could be a PIA if you don't!
