Default AD244 Alternator Source Vehicles

Hi all,

Like many of you I'm interested in doing the upgrade of my stock ~100 A alternator to the AD244 ~145 A alternator. However, I've been frustrated with the lack of a definitive reference for these alternators that were used on the full sized Chevy and GM trucks.

What I would like to do is have people submit where they got their upgraded alternator so that then I can create and maintain a reference list for going to the junk-yard or for purchasing one of these new.

If what I propose has been done and you know of such a source of information, please post it here so that the rest of us can benefit from having it. I have found some information on line but when I tried to apply some of it, e.g. 2000-2006 Silverado 1500s, I find that there appear to be some of those vehicles with alternators with electrical plugs that won't match those on our stock alternators.

However, for the time-being, I would request that people submit information on the vehicles that have the alternators we want. This information would include, if known, the following:
  • Make: GMC, Chevy, Hummer, etc.
  • Year: e.g. 2000
  • Vehicle: (e.g. Silverado 1500, Suburban 2500)
  • Engine size: e.g. 5.3l, 5.7l
  • Alternator RPO code: (e.g. KG3, KG8,KG7, KW1, K60, K68, 8A3 although I think KG3 is the correct 145 Amp one ):
  • Any other useful information or comments to help identify these alternators: (e.g. Differences in electrical connections or mounting among otherwise similar applications? Length of new serpentine belt used.)

You can tell an ad244 by the sheer size of them, they are alot larger tha your alt. Look for high optioned vehicles like suburbans, gmc or even cadillacs. I have found one in a 2009 cadillac escalade and have seen them in higher optioned vehicles.

I got mine out of an 01 suburban. I've heard the 1500 suburbans only had them if they had rear climate control... but I dont know for sure to confirm.

It's been a while, but I believe mine too came out of an 01 Suburban.
