All power goes out when trying to turn on

Correct. The negative connects to the body/frame of the truck and it is the ground. Could also be the cables where they connect to the battery terminals.

Make it sure that the battery is intact.Turn off the main power switch, then turn it on again.

everything is working great now. well except for the dome light stays on constantly. i just took the bulb out and it doesnt really bother me, and that should also be another thread right?
