Default Can someone answer some question about power to the overhead console

I want to get a cam and have it powered on when the key is in the ignition. My line of thought is to install the camera on the rear view mirror and run the cord up and tap into the power supplying the overhead console that gives temp and direction.

Is the console fed by a 12v power cord? Does this sounds like a horribly bad idea?

Sounds fine to me. Yes the overhead is 12v. I did a write up on modifying the display up there.
it will tell ya what is what for wires. I think though that orange is power...that was in my 99 and that was awhile ago....so double check me on that.
I dont see why your idea wouldnt work.

Depends on the amp draw of the camera if it will work. If its too much for the system it will pop the fuse. You try to just add a bigger fuse you stand the chance of catching things on fire.

Been awhile since I've looked at wiring diagrams but if I remember that's a pretty loaded circuit. It might take it or it might not.
