Default cant get a break

yesterday i found that dent in my truck and i went to the auto parts store to get some filler and primer and sand paper to fix it, and the whole way there my battery light is on and the voltage is at the 1/4 mark. i went to dairy queen and in the drive through the voltage kept slowly dropping and when i got home it was almost at the red line, and my battery is dead now. im removing the alternator to take it to be tested today after school, i think it might be bad
