Question Connector Over-heating

Hello,

Could anyone tell me what circuits run through the connector in the photo (from my 1997 Blazer)? A couple of the leads get very hot - to the point of actually melting some of the plastic in the connector. The A/C blower motor is nearby and it sometimes cuts out for several seconds as if it has over-heated. I'm not sure if these two things are related and, if so, which one might be the cause and which one might be the effect. That is, is the connector hot because the blower motor is bad, or, is the blower motor cutting out because the connector is bad. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Tom

If the connector is getting hot, it means there is resistance there. It's either loose, dirty, or corroded. Take it apart, clean it, and try to tighten up the terminals with a small screwdriver, pick, etc. That will hopefully fix it.

Thank you. When I open the connector, some of the plastic is actually melted so I am thinking that I want to replace it. How/where would I purchase a replacement?

A related question, when I jumper 12 volts from the battery directly to the blower motor terminals, the blower motor runs, but the jumper leads get very hot pretty quickly. Is this normal or does it indicate a blower motor problem? The blower was only drawing about 0.5 amps when jumpered this way.

Thanks again,
Tom

Normally, heat means resistance. If your blower motor was only drawing half an amp (which is super low), it's definitely not an excessive current issue.
