Default hatch release wire polarity

I just installed a remote start into my blazer. Everything works fine except the hatch no poppy....

Everywhere I have read shows the black/white wire at the switch is the positive trigger, so I wired up a relay to convert the negative output of the R/S to a positive output. I hear the relay clicking, but nothing. Pushing the button still works. Did I wire it wrong? Was it supposed to be a negative trigger?

FYI 97 blazer, no keyless entry from factory... Had to do the contortionist tricks to get all the wires I needed LOL

Turns out the doors have to be unlocked to pop the hatch... Does anyone know of a wire I can tap into to get the hatch to open even when locked? Otherwise, it's pretty much useless to use the remote lol
