Homemade car alarm project

Default Homemade car alarm project

I constantly drive Neko to school, and I don't like the idea of being one of the only cars there with no alarm. I decided that I would try and make my own! I was thinking that I could tap into the power that goes to the dome light, and then I could run that to a flasher, then run a wire from the flasher to the horn and headlights. I'm having trouble, though- I don't want wires all over the place, so I'm trying to figure out a good place to tap into the power. Also, I'm trying to figure out how to rig up a switch. An external switch wouldn't go well as it would be exposed, and could potentially short out, and an internal switch wouldn't work for obvious reasons. However, I was thinking about a remote switch. I have a rolled F*rd Explorer.. I might be able to get the reciever off it, and we already have the transmitter- it would probably be a simple install, right? Just for use as an on/off switch? Also, another thing I was wondering about- Neko doesn't have a delay for the lights- when you shut the door, they go off. The potential thief could realize this and simply get inside the car quickly, shut the door, get what they need, and get out. I think the F*rd has something that does this, and I was wondering how I could get it rigged into my alarm system. If anyone knows anything about this, I'd greatly appreciate the help.

Rather than try to do it this way and create an electrical nightmare for yourself, I highly recommend buying an aftermarket alarm kit for your truck and installing it.

Seems like there are very simple ones for like $40 or so, would probably work better than home-made...

I would probably get one, except I have no money except what I'm saving for a steering linkage part(s) I need.

Like I said, I'm broke. I don't have any money right now save for some change, although everyone owes me money... But I need the steering linkage before I get an alarm.
