Gotta correct y'all. Here in Houston there is a very popular junk lot. Used to be Pick-a-Part (Now LKQ, whatever) Anyway. I went up this weekend to get a bearing hub. They have big sections of the old CARS vehicles. They are obviously no good for engine parts. Anything useful is either gone or sprayed with some corrosive crap. Now body you can take anything. But the engine parts are kissed. And they have two sections, one older models and one late model section. Each has it's own CARS section.

Personally I would take advantage of this program... if my vehicle wasn't paid off and I had some extra $$$ laying around. It makes sense to me to have something newer than what I have now for better fuel economy, safety standards, and parts availability etc. But on the flip side I think this program is just outright stupid and just another example of how wasteful and out of touch our elected officials seem to be anymore. Why can't they make some of the "clunker" vehicles available to people who would like a newer car that might gets better mileage than what they have or for people who simply don't have a vehicle at the moment. Wasteful!!

Well, it looks like the 'cash for clunkers' has finished and from what I can find there are 700,000 new cars costing 2.88 billion $$. Now lets see if it has made any difference. On a side note, one of our home improvement depots here is asking you to trade in you toilet for a new water efficient one. Anyone want to guess what they are calling it?

Cash For Crappers!!

EDIT: I found the link for it http://www.freedomsphoenix.com/Find-...8355&From=News

1) Wrecking yards must first BUY the vehicles from Dealerships. 2) Dealerships are NOT obligated to sell the vehicles only to wrecking yards.

There are wrecking yards around here (Dayton, Ohio area) that have NO interest in buying any of the Clunkers. Some say it's NOT cost effective for them since the high dollar parts have been destroyed.

On that note, I had the unfortunate opportunity this past Friday to talk to a local flatbed driver (yea, my Blazer broke down...another story). He said the his towing company has contracts to tow 2,200 Clunkers directlyt to the local Iron smelting plant!!

These 2,220 vehicles will NOT be parted out. That sucks for us older Blazer owners!

I did cash for clunkers on my 96 blazer - it was immaculate and the dealer was amazed I was getting rid of it....hey I got more than blue book value. Anyway, they said engine and tranny would be destroyed, but they were sure my truck would be parted out. I pulled everything I could off first and hopefully will find a new home for some parts.

I know this program is over and all. But I went to the local parts yard on Monday and they picked up a ton of cash for clunkers trade ins. The engines were painted orange which meant you couldnt take anything off it. Everything else was fair game. Sad to say but there were tons of blazers/jimmys and even a few bravada's which I never can find. Most were untouched and in great condition. So if anyone needs anything let me know.
