Yeah, I'm looking for a simplistic everyday combo that won't break the bank lol. That is why I needed some suggestions. Looks like most people here freshwater fish. Anyone do saltwater? Pier fishing? Surf fishing?

i surf fish every once in a while. Dont worried about finding a "saltwater" combo. Just buy what you want, and wash down with the hose pipe when you are done fishing.

So in your opinion what is the best everyday combo for the money?

Mitchell 300xe spinning reel on a uglystick, or a abu garcia Orra on a berkley cherrywood rod.

If you want baitcasting, and you can throw one go with a ambassador 6000. Dont buy the BCX versions. They are indeed cheaper BUT china made parts. stick with sweden made abu.

Are you mainly going to be fishing piers/saltwater? If so definitely go with a ambassador 6000. they are $100 new for just the reel, but you can find em on ebay for around 50 used. Just make sure they are the original Sweden made. They have bait clickers and hold a good bit of line if you use some power pro braid.

I need a setup for saltwater fishing like pier or surf. Then a setup for freshwater fishing like at a huge lake.

I use a 12' Ugly Stick in the surf with a Penn reel (don't remember which one) with 30lb test and 50lb leader. I have a Penn Long Beach combo with a Penn real for cherter boat fishing also with 30lb test. I also have a couple light weight spinning combos for freshwater that I also use for snappers off of piers but can not remember the brands since 1 is about 30 years old and they are rigged with 8-10lb test. I also have another 6 ft rigged for the surf also with 30lb test. I will have to take some pics.
