I just this past weekend got me a 98 Honda Prelude 5 sp 2.2 V-Tec and I love it! I knew it was what I wanted and I researched the hell outta them, drove 5, and finally found a good one. They are such good cars, they are hard to come by. I got mine for 4k. Just sayin'!

1. You need to decide on how much your budget is.
2. Need to decide how old of a vehical your willing to get. You can get a very nice sport sedan if your willing to get something that has some miles on it or a little older.
3. If you want something newer than your going to have to narrow what makes/models fit your criteria and hunt around to you find the right car at the right price.
4. Let us know what you eventually purchase.

id keep the blazer and just tune it up. check rolling resistance on the wheels, tire pressure and stuff like that. replace all ur sensors on the motor that affect fuel economy (all of them? lol) and drive it. you talk about wanting something reliable and cheap then mention you want a BMW or Volvo, parts arent cheap for cars like that and if you ask me, they arent any more reliable than a Malibu. (Malibu SS?)

anyhow. i AM a big fan of american cars and i would stay on this side of the ocean, but thats just me. ive had back luck with any import ive ever owned.
a couple of my friends have Mercedes and BMW cars, just a rip off if you ask me. youre paying for shipping and a logo and a fancy dealership. then youre paying for parts later. for 6k there isnt too much from europe worth buying.
MAYBE you can find an older M3 but i doubt its going to be good on gas.

whatever you buy the mileage is up to your right foot.

BTW Cavaliers and Prius' ARENT sporty. they are cheap compact cars.

lots of guys like to bash the L67 from the GTP (and lots of other cars) saying that its a barbecue waiting to happen. (a top end oil leak thats common can pool oil up underneath the LIM and cause an oil fire that will likely destroy the whole engine. pics can be found on the internet all over of idiots that were too busy trying to look like a douche bag to wonder why they need a liter of oil every time they get gas and arent concerned where its going... "well i dont have a puddle under the car when i park!"

if you ask me, the 3800 was one of the best, most reliable engines out there. and even without the supercharger its got a good amount of power. mostly torque, but its a smooth engine despite being a 90* and damn does it every pull off the line. but they do get **** mileage if you drive them like a sporty car.

i forget who said it here, but i agree, boosted cars are great, if you dont use the boost.

man i havent been here in a while been trying to research what i should get. i dont think all the tuning in the world could get me the mileage i want out of the blazer, i get 16-18 city and i think thats at least average if not a little better for a blazer. keep my tires inflated properly. i want more than 20 mpg in the city, especially since gas is 60 cents more a gallon now than when i started this thread, lol. and i like the gtps, but they wont get me any better than the blazer would in city driving. still leaning towards an s60, thanks for the help guys
