friend of mine is the same way. he loves saabs. bought one thats like 5 years old, brought it into your regular old mechanic shop about a week ago to get the rack and pinion changed and they f'ed it up. all sorts of lights are on, and when he brought it back they are saying they dont have the computer ability to scan those lights due to it being foreign
Let that be a warning to ya! If you have to take it to a shop, take it to a foreign specialist or dealer. I know I come down hard on 'ASE Certified Mechs', but they arent all hacks. Just that when a tech gets to know them well, he damn sure aint gonna be working at the 'corner garage and bait shop'.

I personally think Audi's are overrated german crap and it used to make blow my stack everytime Car and Driver reviewed the newer models because I rode in them and there were PLENTY of problems. That was starting with the 100LS which was like a VW. Solid new but you dont want one out of warranty. To hear car mags, all the new ones were wonderful.. not pieces of crap like the earlier ones, which were wonderful when they came out

On the other hand, when I was working with a guy in England in the 80's he REALLY wanted an AMC Pacer.

Nothing I could say would convince him otherwise. He wanted one so bad, he even subscribed to the US base newspapers in UK and Germany hoping to snag one

Have you ever driven one lately? My S4 is the best car I've ever owned, hands down. It's also the most reliable. Not a single issue with it in over 70K miles, other than sub-par gas mileage.

you just have to grasp the odd ways of volkswagen/audi's german engineering. oh and get yourself a set of what they call "tripple square" sockets, they look like torx bits but yes.. they are different

Yeah thats the part im worried about is the expense of parts. Im not worried about bad mechanics tho.. my moms very good friend has been a German car specialist for 25+ years and owns his own shop and everything. He has worked on my moms Porsches for a long time. They even fixed the proportioning valve on my Blazer when the idiots at Les Schwab said it was toast.

So before i buy an Audi i will definitely have him do a check on it for me.

Ive had loods of Audis and VWs and they have never let me down, I had the VW passat 20V T and it never let me down even though i drove it hard most places. I got a remap on it from 150 bhp to 212bhp and what a difference it made. My partner has the seat leon 2.0 fr and thats a great car also. Im a big fan of german cars due to there reliability but my hobby and passon are American cars so thats why i have my blazer and my hot rod with a BBC in it.. Best of both worlds Audis are good cars
