Default 5 speed effect on value?

New member here. My daughter has a 2000 2dr Blazer with a 5 spd manual transmission. I know nothing about these, but I can't seem to find any others online. Everything I see has an automatic. Was the 5spd less common, and does having it make her car more desirable or worth more? Thanks!

Thev5-speed was definitely less common. You didn't say if it was 2 or 4wd.

Since the automatics can eventually need a major service or rebuild that can cost thousands of dollars, it might be an advantage to have a manual in a 25 y.o. truck!

More broadly, the manuals will likely be more attractive to a niche customer base. Such a Blazer might be harder to sell in a smaller market compared to a larger metro area.

If nothing else, I congratulate your daughter for knowing how to drive a manual!

If I ever replace my 5-speed manual, 1982 Prelude I hope I can find another 2dr car with a manual as they are so much more fun to drive.

If it is 4wd then it should have the steel front diff case, which is highly desired by those who offroad. As mentioned above, it would be desirable to a niche group. Many, many drivers don't have a clue how to drive with a manual tranny, so that does limit the folks that would want it. Particularly among anyone who started driving in the last 20 years or so.

Ah, so the front diffs were different depending on the type of transmission. This is a good bit of knowledge!

They were steel or cast iron, I forget which. Theoretically they should be stronger than the aluminum ones that are on all autos. Might be due to the manuals don't have a torque converter? I have no idea, though. I know all the 5 speed ZR's are that way, and I believe I heard the same with non-Z's.

Welcome to the forum.

I agree with AJBert and Christine. The 5-speed trucks were definitely less common, but that will make them desirable to only a niche group. I doubt it would make them significantly more valuable.
