Meee and my Blazer....cruisin'
Hi everyone....from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan here.
This is my first Blazer. She is a 1999 Blazer LS with 4.3 L vortex V6 under her hood. She is fully loaded, Silver exterior, black interior, with dark grey cloth seats. Someone has taken very good care of her over the years. She only has 100K miles on her to date.
I drove to Milwaukee Wisconsin to get her. I am a disabled 53 yr old woman and I needed a reliable vehicle to get me through the deep snowy situations we have where I live. My last car slowly gave up the ghost on me over the last several months until it became glaringly apparent that I needed to move on towards another vehicle.
Now I am experiencing a few things wrong with my new girl. Things that the dealer should have disclosed to me but did not. And since it is an 8 hour drive back to where I purchased her I need to seek out other solutions, hopefully cheap ones, because after her purchase i am tapped out.
The security light on the dash continually flashes even after the doors are locked and closed. So far she starts and runs fine, and after starting the light goes out, but each time I open the drivers door (engine off, key removed) the security light comes on, flashing it's little head off and on, and no matter what I do (having read all the suggestions in other forums and in the manual) it flashes and flashes. I am afraid it is going to run my battery dead!
Now i think I need to get this figured out post haste before i get stranded somewhere. With the sub zero weather we are having and my physical disability it would be a miserable event if she did not start due to some passlock security malfunction.
I will be posting this situation to an appropriate thread also.
So glad to have found this forum. I hope someone can help.

Welcome from Alberta.
Regarding the security light, I believe that it flashing like that is normal. It's a theft deterent feature. You could double check to see if it says anything about it in the manual if you have one. I don't have factory security on my Blazer, but hopefully someone else can chime in here an confirm. If nothing else you could post up your question about it in the general tech section. You'll probably get a better response there than asking the question in the new member welcome area.

Thanks I got some hits in another thread. All over the place though as far as suggestions. So i finally broke down and took her to the dealer for diagnostics. They said it is normal for her model and year. They did however find another problem I was worried about......she has an intake manifold gasket leak, a trickle, and the heater core is clogged. Also they suggest putting in a new thermostat. I told them she was only running at about 120 degrees and there was very little heat making the cab temp just bearable being that is is 16F outside here right now.
Of course the dealer quoted me $1000.00 parts and labor so I will need to make some phone calls to find a lesser expensive deal elsewhere. Geeeze! This sucks those guys I just bought her from.....I just know they knew about this because the day I took her for a test drive the sales guy rode with me and I had just driven another '98 Blazer on his lot that had a heater that blasted us out of the cab, and I told him, "This one doesn't have near as good a heater as the other one does it?" and he sat there and didn't say a thing. I didn't think anything about it until I got her home and her jug was empty and I topped her off. Then, only about 40 miles later it was low again today at the dealer. There has to be a way I can make that dealer pay for the parts and labor for not disclosing to me this problem. Also they were not honest to me about the spare tire. On the sheet the dealer marks off that tells the buyer all the things that their service people checked that passed.....well they checked that there was no problem with the spare tire. The question on the sheet is , yes or no : spare tire or jack missing, they marked no. Well the spare tire was missing and the hanger that holds the spare up underneath is so rusted frozen that the guys today that I bought a spare from could not work it loose and the long crank tool that goes up in the rear bumper is missing too. So I will need to replace the spare tire hanger too and the crank tool. This just isn't a good way for a dealer to do business. Dishonest, dishonest dishonest!
I am still trying very hard to count my blessings.

That's really unfortunate that you got a bad Dealer. You should talk to the manager of the dealership where you bought the vehicle. Maybe they'll help out with the cost of the repairs; especially the ones that they checked off as not missing/needing repair.
