Hi guys , I've looked til my head hurts but cannot find a definitive answer , I need to prove the age of my engine to register in the UK , It's a 1999 Blazer 4.3 with vortec heads and spider injection going in a hot rod, but the vin number differs from the codes I have found mainly 2nd 3rd and 9th numbers, is it possible to contact GM to verify the age. What I have I believe is
1 USA
G GM
N
D
T Tonawanda
1 January
3 3rd
W 4.3 Vortec
4
x 1999
k 4wd
as you see I have some missing, the rule was this would be ok but it's since changes and I have to prove the vin is correct , any help would be much apprecated
Mike
Hi Les, thanks for your reply, I have seen this table and mine which is vin code W, comes out as 1999 4wf BLZ UKA , so I take it that means UK market
I know this as I know the car was a 1999 4wd Blazer But how can I prove it , The DVSA are asking for OM document prove , It's all to do with emissions as that's what they tax you on
so a 350 crate motor is taxed as a new car needing low emissions and cat's fitted , hence everyone is looking for pre 72 engine blocks , so they change the rules and we have to prove the age .
For a 1999 vin W engine, you are looking for a UKA stamp in the block somewhere back by the distributor per the linked document. This would prove the engine year as 1999. UKA would have nothing to do with United Kingdom or the vehicle VIN.
There is also another number stamped in the pad at the front of the cylinder head behind the alternator. Look for the three letter code as part of the number in both locations.
