Default Winch question

Whats the minimum rated weight of a winch I'd want to put on my Jimmy?

I'd go 9K to be sure, but I run with an 8K presently. I can turn it into a 16K using my block so I'm not too worried, other than pulling my frame out from under the body...lol

you do know you're not supposed to anchor the other end of the truck with a strap, right?

The standard is usually twice the weight of the vehicle.

4000 lb truck = 8000 lb winch

8k winch will be fine. Buy a good ****** block and use it whenever the situation allows, that will put way less stress on the winch . Ive never weighed my rig , but I ballpark it at around 6-6500lbs. Ive never had anything but an 8k Warn and the winch has never failed to pull the truck.

Why would you put your weight at 6500 lbs? From the factory they are 4100, I run Rocks-44's-468 BB and it's just over 6000.

Its just a ball park. Rockwells are 300Lbs (or something like that) heavier than 1 tons once they are stripped. That being said, my buddy just weighed his rig at the scales and it was 7500lbs. He has a toyota 4 runner with a SBC, rocks, and doubler. Im on tons, sbc, and a 203/lomax doubler. Ive put 3 xtra x members on it, and 14 sticks of HREW for the cage, sliders, bumpers. All of my tow points are 1/2" thick plate. Im basically just guessing, but with my frame/cage ect being built like a brick ****house , I would think im pretty close.

Edit- you are correct with the factory weight though- http://coloradok5.com/specs.shtml
