I have a Z and I hate the tire gate. the guy that had it before me obviousely didnt pay attention when he openned it and now the body is dented. The tire weighs too much and the gate mounts are not supported enough for the weight. So once I cut off the tire gate (I already stripped the bolts). I am going to weld up a mount that bolts to the cargo tie down brackets. Like the ones they make for truck beds at an angle.

I got 31x10.50 mudders and they definately will not fit on that inside mount, I have only seen those on 4 door blazers.

 

how are you going to mount ur tire on ur zr2? are you putting in in the hatch cargo area or the truck or going to mount in on the side of the truck inside the hatch? how are you plannin on making the tire holder?

 

like this one from fabtech but with four legs and mounting it to the tie down points in the cargo area behind the seats, so I dont have to drill holes in my truck and I can pull it out if need be.
