Also, does anyone know if the paint is clear-coated underneath the sticker?
The paint is definitely clear coated under the decal. There may be a slightly noticeable outline left from it when you take it off, probably from sun fading as you said. Use goo gone to get rid of any outline/goo left from the decal and you shouldn't have a problem.

Debadging the ZR2 was not as big a deal as I thought.

I went to an autobody shop to get an opinion on whether it will come off good or not, or any dangers to my paint.

He assured me there were none, and to prove it he started peeling the sticker off. I got home and finished the job. That sticker peels off like a dream, but I used a hair dryer for good measure.

It left a slight outline from the rest of the paint fading, and the paint under the sticker being brand new, but I am thinking a little wax and time will take care of that.

Here are the pics (as promised long ago) of the back sides of my 3 badges I took off. I'll let you guess which one tore my paint off. lol

It's the top one...incase you couldn't tell. lol. That's the amount of dirt that got inbehind my badge and damaged the paint.

You can see in the last one too the badge starting to green/corrode

If the paint tore off like that that panel was most likely repainted. I've never seen factory paint tear off. Usually the panel gets repainted and they put the emblem back on right away and the glue bonds into the paint since it isn't fully cured and then you get what happens to you when you try to peel it off. Had this happen with my 98 S10 which I didn't think had been repainted till I pulled the door emblem off.

You have a point. My truck has never been in an accident though (not to say the door hasn't been repainted). My best friend works at the GM dealership and I had him run the VIN in the system to see what had been done to it. Nothing major like that...but you do raise a good point. Even still, if the paint started to bubble in anyway (stock or not) behind the badge it would peel off IMO.

...umm ok, well thanks for that comment. Completely unrelated to the discussion at hand (the fact of why my paint came off)....
