Has anyone out there turned a Jimmy into a trailer?
I have a 2001 GMC Jimmy 4WD body. The motor and trans are sold- and the front is wrecked. I am an outdoorsy kinda guy and love to hunt, fish, camp, etc. the problem is I am getting older- not old by a long shot- but older. I am finding that traditional camping is a little harder on the body and I figured what the heck. I have a 96 Blazer I am about to start on, and I have this Jimmy, it has a clear title, and it is already partly stripped mechanically. All I really need to do is have the front frame fabricated into a trailer tongue, gut and get a little creative with the interior, and I have a nice sized mini camper. I am just curious if anyone here has done anything like this and can point out some stuff I should look for. I have already checked with my local DMV, and once it is turned into a trailer, before I rip out the dash, I can take it down to the DMV inspection station, surrender the Jimmy title, and they will issue a homemade trailer title. So I am thinking of things like towing issues, should I add/ remove weight here or there, possibly add electric brakes, just whatever. Thanks in advance.
