There is another thread sort of discussing this, but I decided to make a how to on how I mounted my Fire Extingusher and Maglite, and made them not rattle while driving.
Here is a link to the other thread.
Materials Needed:
- Fire Extinguisher (Auto/Kitchen Style and size) (Can buy at Walmart for about $15+tax)
- 2,3,or 4 C or D cell Maglite
- Appropriate sized clips for the maglite (I found mine on amazon.com for like $7+shipping)
- You can also use Quick Fists of appropriate size
- Double sided industrial grade foam tape (can be found in automotive area of walmart, made by Duct brand)
- Screws
You will want to layout where you want to mount the items by test fitting again and again.
I chose the jack cover in the rear cargo area to mount both.
I mounted them with doublesided industrial grade foam tape, then put in 2 screws per Maglite clamp (came with the clamps). I did this to hold them in good since they grip the Maglite real tight and I ripped one of the mounts off once already. You could also add similar screws to the mount for the fire extinguisher, I just haven't gotten around to it yet and it has not come loose for the year I have had it installed.
Here is a view of just the mounts:

Showing the Fire Extingusher and a better view of the maglite mounts:

Showing the final product installed:

Here is a view from the rear of the truck with the liftgate open:

Now to make the batteries not rattle in the Maglite:
First tape the batteries together as shown below.

Then get a sheet of loose leaf notebook paper and roll it tightly around the batteries. Taping the length of the paper seam when you are done. Then make sure you can slide the paper tube on and off (so you can change the batteries in the future).

Here is the finished look with the paper wrapped around the batteries

And then insert batteries and paper tube into the maglite

Very nice! Odd that you had a battery rattling issue. I don't have that issue with any of my maglites, then again the only one I carry in the car is a 2C..D's might be a different design..enough to rattle [&:], but good solution to the problem!

Yeah I have the 3-D Cell version Maglite. Also since it is mounted horizontally pretty close to the axle, it pretty much rattled everytime I hit an expansion joint. Not too bad but I didn't have the subs installed yet at that point.
