I was taking the Chevy logo off the tailgate so I could finish painting, and when I was taking it off, it broke. Of course, as soon as it broke, I noticed that it was pinned inside the tailgate. I had to finish taking it off, and now I have three ugly holes about as big around as a pencil in my tailgate. I don't have another Chevy logo. What can I do about this? The obivious solution is Bondo, but I can't afford it. Will JB Weld work instead?

 

a small can of body filler is $15. i don't know how well jb-weld would sand down either.

 

Is there anything cheaper? Like I said, I'm broke- Neko's sitting out in the driveway with barely enough gas to make it to the station, and I don't even have enough money to make it worth the trip!

A buddy of mine used JB Weld to patch chips and holes in the plastics of his Honda crotch rocket. Used it as if it were bondo, sanded it down and painted it and as far as I know, it's held up pretty well.

 

I was hoping for someone who has seen JB Weld used as Bondo before. It was pretty much my first idea, except I didn't wanna put it on there and screw something up. It's dark now, so I guess tomorrow I'll have to air up my bicycle tires and go all the way across town to borrow some JB Weld from my uncle.

 

as a body man i would blow a gasket if somebody asked me to paint a car and i found jb all over it. It is really hard to sand or grind. If your really looking for a cheap fast fix put some silicone on the holes.but you must remember silicone is a major problem if you attempt to paint it right later. You would have to clean every bit of it off. But this would be a cheap easy fix that will stop water from getting in and stop it from rusting

 

I'm painting it myself. If I can't paint silicone, I don't want it on there because if I have to take it off anyway, what's the point of it? I need a cheap, 100% fix. If JB Weld is too tough to grind or sand, what else is there? Could I take it apart and attach some kind of metal patch- like part of a tin can- on the inside? It would keep water out, right? I'm hoping to find something to cover them up, anyway, whether it's a new Chevy logo or some kind of sticker.
