Default to paint or not to paint...thats the question!

ok ive been throwing around the idea to repaint my grill...right now its just the basic crappy looking flat black grill... what i wanna do is either do a glossy black or paint match to my truck....im leaning more towards paint matching but i dunno lol.....input please

Has anybody done this on the older series (like a '97 ?). I think painting the chrome surround white would make it tuff to match my 10 year old paint.

My chrome surround is faded and foggy right below where the hood and fender meet, so I assume it's from water drainage. I was thinking of painting it a matte black, sorta between flat and glossy, to match the mirrors and other stuff that is black on the body. Not sure how that would look with a flat black grille. Might be too much black.

Anybody done anything different and have a pic ? This pic is not mine but similar to what it originally was:
