Plates will fit with the lift no problem. The 6" lift is where I dont think itll fit.
Sweet, thanks. I did look at every page on your build thread but couldn't see any pictures of the plates actually on. Planned on pming you after work but since you answered what I was going to ask..
Had a buddy pick some skids up for his 1st gen 93 blazer. Here they are before he installed them.
Notice the big difference in the front plate...the other two appear that they would fit 2nd gen models.
The engine plate looks identical to the 2nd gen, transfer case skid is a little different but does look like it would work. Wonder if it would need to be modified...
I managed to find a set of carbon fibre skid plates off a zr2 last weekend got the brackets and all. Didn’t realize it was a zr2 till I went to put the oil filter plate on. Is there a way to make it fit? And my 2000 already had a aluminum plate around my gas tank so got the pan plate and tcase plate as well. My only issue is the bolt
holes aren’t threaded for the plates I don’t have
When I grabbed my plates from the yard, my 4 door only had the cheap plastic oil filter cover. I had to clean the threads out for the tcase cover, and the gas tank uses an existing bolt behind the rear driver wheel, and attaches to bolts used for the tcase. I do believe there is enough room to slide a bolt on the other side of the supports, a few hardened bolts and locking nuts should do the trick.
Edit:
For the height difference for the oil filter cover, could maybe make a aluminum spacer of some sort to fill the gap?
I grabbed the set of engine skid plate brackets off the zr2 parts truck I had. I forgot to add to this thread that I made them work on my blazer. The bolts themselves are too long from the zr2. And there is a little spacer that needs to be punched out, but the brackets will fit, and the engine plate will fit aswell... I just need to recap the holes for the plate before I can install and take a pic.
DonL, any updates here? I was able to find some ZR2 brackets that I'm interested in making work on a non-ZR2 blazer. Any tips/pointers/photos would be greatly appreciated.
Related to the above, I found another variant of skid plates in the parts yard today. I know, shut the front door. It was a 2004 ZR2 Blazer...(pause for dramatic effect)...2wd. Yep, it was a non-4WD option, so not generally applicable to most people's uses except for fulfilling the purpose of this thread, which is to be a one-stop-shop for skid plates. Apparently 2004 was the first year 2wd was an option on the ZR2s. It still came with a G80 rear differential, which sadly had already been cannibalized. Anywho, the skid plates are different on this animal as well. The front skid and gas tank were missing, but the oil pan and "transfer case" location were there and all made out of steel. The plate where the t-case would be was basically flat. It was wider than the typical aluminum plates and mounted at the same 5 locations. The oil pan plate was wider as well, and the A-arms have a bracket off of them to accept the mounting bracket (which I suppose means it has a bracket bracket). Front suspension looked generally the same as a standard 4wd, but with the wider skid plate and A-arm brackets there was definitely something different going on there.
Anyone know anything else about this version of the skid plates? Maybe these are worthless to most folks which is why they're not mentioned yet, but I feel like its worth documenting.
My apologies for not having photos...the parts yard is never kind on my phones so I typically leave it in my glove box to avoid issues. If I find myself back out that direction I'll find a way to grab some photos if there's enough popular demand.
