Default Which V-8?

Alright, I'm planning on redo-ing my 1999 4x4 2 door this summer, and I want to drop a v8 engine into it. I was wondering which would be a better swap, the 5.7 or the 4.8 engines. And if i do drop in a V8, will I have to get my tranny replaced?

Default RE: Which V-8?

No, you will not have to replace your transmission. You may want to think about it if you are expecting to build up the motor for more power though.

The SCFI 5.7L engines will be the easiest to swap. The 4.8L engines will require a different PCM to handle the coil-on-plug and various differences in the newer LS based engines. If you were thinking of going with the newer LS based v8s, why not go 5.3L or 6.0L. They are the same outside dimensions and require the same work to get the engine management up to snuff.
