I have the push button 4x4 and I no I have to be completely stopped before switching from one to another. Now here is where I am confused...some say that the wheels should be straight before I engage or disengage the 4x4 and some say it dont matter...who is right? My last question is I was told when I disengage and go back to 2wd I should put it in reverse first to disengage it properly and then I was told to sit there til the 2wd light comes on and I am good to go. Do I go in reverse first or just wait for light? Sorry just lost 4x4 cherry so now I am in 4x4 ed class I guess LMAO

 

As far as I know, you can shift between 2-hi and 4-hi at any speed. To shift from 4-hi to 4-lo, you need to be going 5 mph or less, I think...

I'll see if I can scrounge up a user's manual and see for sure.

*update*
I stand corrected, you should be moving 3 mph or less to shift from 4-hi to 4-lo. Here's the excerpt from my owner's manual (1997). The procedure should be the same for yours.
