I was quoted $500-$800 for labor to swap the front and rear ring and pinion gears. Does that sound like a good price to you?

Dang! Glad I did mine myself. You could buy all the tools & beer you needed to do that job & some other stuff for that kinda flow! Thats a pretty big range fro $500 to $800... that means it will be $1000 by the time they are done. Did you get more than one estimate?

yeah, but if he's never set-up a pattern before, it'll cost him more to have it redone when he wipes out the new gears.

i agree with Brent, get a better estimate. and they should be able to tell you exactly how much it'll be, since you're gonna do all the seals & bearings while you're in there.

I'm now lifting a 88 S10 Blazer with a 4.3. I would need gears for the GM 7.625" rear axle right? Or will the 7.5" gears work?? I want to be sure which axle I have first.

just look @ the ring gear.

it has the ratio (like this XX:xx) and the ring gear diameter (either 7.500 or 7.625), stamped right on it.
