97 Bravada, advice on AWD Delete, already missing front drive shaft.
#11
You're making way too much work, and spending money needlessly.
Pull both half shafts out, remove both outer CV joints from the half shafts, install them back into the wheel hub assemblies and torque them down. Done! No need to drain the fluid, there's no driveshaft so the pinion shaft will not turn. The axles are essentially removed so the differential is not turning.

I need one new wheel hub regardless, and I can get 2 of the 2wd hubs for less than the cost of one of the awd hubs, so I'm actually saving a bit of cash.
The front diff is toast, no need to carry around an extra 75 pounds of useless metal, so it's coming out. It's already mostly out but as I only get one day a week off work and it started downpouring as I was working on the last bolt, it will be finally removed on my next day off (monday).

Post #11 is the cheapest, easiest way to do it. You need to put the outer CV's back in the hubs and torque the axle nuts or the bearing will fall apart.
