So I’ve located a true trac traklock for my s10 from somebody that never used it. I’m curious if any of you guys have had one and what your thoughts are on them on the street and how do you think it will affect my front diff life.
I have owned a 4x4 Ranger with a Dana 28 that I installed a similar type Dana made locker and it was amazing except off-road in extreme stress situations I’d tear the u joints out of the axles. On road it was amazing as well. Only time I noticed it was heavy on gas in the snow while turning and it would drift like a rear posi.
Thanks for for your thoughts guys.

I've never heard of this one. Got a pic of it or the box? The only one I'm aware of for the front is the Lock Right by Powertrax #1935 and it's a lunch box style locker. You'll need to learn how to drive with it, like not trying to gas on it when going around corners, etc..

What i I called it was my mistake. I think that’s what I had in my ranger actually it’s been 20 years so who knows.

You won't noticed anything different when driving in 2wd since the front axle will be disconnected, both from the transfercase and the left wheel from the right wheel (unless you've installed the Bravada tube and shaft and done away with the disconnect)
But you may want to do some research, look up instances of people using lockers in the factory front diff. I remember reading about those that have done it and have split the cast aluminum diff housing because of the stresses in it after locking it... The cast iron diffs found in some of the ZR2 are noted to be a little stronger and able to handle the stresses a little better, but good luck tracking one down as they're pretty illusive (not all ZR2's came with the iron casings, seems to be hit or miss...)

hurleyii, what has been said about the locker being hard on a aluminum case is very true and they aren't recommended. Don't get me wrong, the differential can survive but they will NOT stand up to hard abuse. If that's in the plans you will definitely need an iron case and some more items. such as installing a 1 ton idler arm adapter which will allow you to run the idler arm out of a 1 ton Silverado and a idler arm out of a K3500. If you'd like more specifics pm me.
