Default Encoder Motor Question

Since you are obviously familiar with the ins and outs of the zr2, could you please answer a question for me? By the way, here's a short background. I'm a disabled vet (severe back injury) and I'm trying to find the transfer case motor on her zr2. The 4wheel drive doesn't work and the mechanic said that it's the motor. I'm trying to save a little money and do it myself but cant find the little bugger. Since a new one is so expensive and the VA barely gives enough to pay bills, doing the work myself is the only option. When you press the 4lo you can hear it "try" to engage, but it doesn't and the light flashes and then it goes out and the 4hi light comes on but is not engaged. When you press the 4hi button it does nothing. I've looked and looked online for a diagram or picture where it is and can't find one. Please help me. We just got 7" of snow and it's not doing any good as a rear wheel drive suv. Thank you.
Also, I was told that sometimes if you take the old motor off and clean it, sometimes that works and is all it needed. Any opinions?

It's on the transfer case on the drivers side. You have to take off the skid plate to get to it. Try making a thread about it, I'm sure other people would be able to help a bit more, I don't have any pictures, sorry.

Mine was doing the same thing, and didn't get it done quick enough and long story short, I had to get a new (used) transfer case, shift motor and switch. I had to get a shop to do it because I was in the city, and it decided to go into 4 lo all by itself one day and not come out again. Took it to the nearest shop and they couldn't even get it to shift out manually, it was siezed into 4 lo.

try looking there, there's also a good how to on the zr2 site, I looked at it quickly. The shift motor is above the front driveshaft, so that needs to be removed to get at it as well.
