Floor shifter to column shifter mod
I've seen several threads about people wanting to change from column shifters to floor shifters but I would like to do the reverse. I have a 1998 blazer 4x4 AT. So far I realized I need the new column with the shifter.
The cable is already inside the cab but I dont know if the column shifter uses cable or linkage like the old chevy trucks.
I need the new gauge cluster that has the display of what gear I'm in underneath the tach gauge.
I'm not sure about the wiring either for my nuetral safety switch and all the other wires, (total of 5) in the harness that goes on my current floor shifter. Will that hook up directly to a column shifter? or are there some major mods there or another harness I need to buy.
Then I need to find a 60/40 front seat and get rid of my current center console.
Any information would be very helpfull. After all this I am going to put a 4x4 manual shifter on the floor that I'll have to make cause I'm tired of all the problems with my computer and the electronic unit like about everyone else in this forum it seems like. I already got rid of my vacume hoses and put in a posi-lock cable.
Also if anyone out there wants to do the opposite let me know I have a great shop and will do all the work if you want to swap parts.

Even the column shifter uses a cable to actuate the transmission.
As far as your shift interlock (press the brake to shift), and other associated wiring (neutral safety is not in the center console), you are going to have to see what is on the replacement column as far as connectors go. It may very well plug right in once you pull the wiring back up into the dash.

Thanks for your help. Do you know if it uses the same shifter cable? Mine is already in the cab it comes through below the drivers seat and can reach the steering column area but will it hook up or need to run in a different location? Does anyone know what goes where as far as the wiring harnesses what goes to the column and what to the gauges?
I doubt it is the same cable, but a quick comparison on any parts website should tell the tale. I believe that they all come through at the same point, but the one for the column shift is likely a different length.
I don't think anything new will go to the gauges other than the proper cluster that is... The gear selection readout should be controlled with current wiring. The dash should be plug-n-play.
