I am a big believer in doing preventative maintenance to avoid future headaches. The front wheel bearings in my '01 ZR2 are not acting up at all but the vehicle has almost 77K miles on it so I wanted to clean the bearings and repack them with some good synthetic redline grease.

It appears these have a whole hub assembly with the bearings inside of them. Is it possible to get to the bearings to re-grease them?

I dont believe so. The 2nd Gen stuff has sealed bearings.

 

not serviceable and pretty pricey to replace
If you ever need to replace them be cautious of brand type , some brands dont stand up

 

I was afraid that might be the answer. Who the hell makes a BEARING that isn't re-greaseable?????????

So, GM's plan is, you install it and just wait for it to go bad? LAME.

A properly maintained, cleaned and lubricated bearing can last a LOOOOOOONG time. *Shakes head at GM with disgust*

 

its the same design as most front wheel drive cars on the road today
Just not sure why it is such a pricey hub assembly
