Default My 2001 4 door 4x4 Blazer shakes/vibrates at 65+mph…

I have a 2001 Chevy Blazer 4 door 4x4 with 108,000 miles on it. I bought it with 103,500 miles on it about a little over a year ago. The vibration was always present since I bought it. It was worse before I changed the 12 year old tires to a brand new set of Goodyear wrangler radial 235/75/15.

The whole truck vibrates starting at about 65mph. The whole truck, dash, seats, the whole body of the truck, and everything shakes/vibrates. The truck isn’t unstable at speed, it just vibrates bad. It seems the truck does not vibrate under load, it only vibrates when I coast (off the throttle or at very light throttle) at 65mph and above.

I got brand new tires, road force balanced and all. New lower control arms, and also got a perfect wheel alignment.

The vibration is less intense with the new tires.

I checked all suspension components front and rear, drive shafts, half shafts, all the motor/trans mounts, steering components, and everything with a long pry bar. There is no play at all on anything. Everything is as solid as it can be.

What could be causing the vibration at 65mph and above?

I’m lost at this point, because everything is in excellent shape, and I just cannot figure it out.

Help please!

A little update….

turns out, my upper control arm bushings, outer tie rod end ball joints, and the front CV axles are all completely SHOT.

I also got the wheels checked for balance, but the wheels didn’t even need any balancing. They were perfectly balanced from the last time I replaced my tires.

All The suspension stuff I mentioned looked great, but when you actually try to move them around while the truck is on the lift, they are all completely loose. When the truck was on the ground, they all seemed tight.

Gonna get the Upper control arms, outer tie rod ends and the cv axles replaced this week. A total of $450 in parts, and a buddy of mine at work will replace the parts. I work at a ford dealership btw.

Got all AC Delco Gold parts. Except for the cv axles. There doesn’t seem to be any “good name brand OEM” cv axles available for our blazers anymore. So I got TRQ CV axles. reviews were great, so hopefully the CV axles last.

Will update with the vibration issue once I get all these parts replaced!

Good update.

And good reminder that visual inspections are best followed by trying to move the suspension parts.

A weak point in Blazer suspensions is the idler arm. You might have that checked and perhaps replaced too.

Final update!

So I got the Upper control arms, Outer tie rod ends, and the front CV axles replaced a week ago. I’ve been driving the truck around, (highway and city) for a week.

The vibration is completely gone after the repairs.

I got AcDelco Gold Upper control arms, and AcDelco Gold outer tie rod ends. Couldn’t find a GM cv axle, so I got TRQ CV axles. They had great reviews.

After I got all these replaced, and got an alignment, the vibration is gone. Went upto 95mph, and there are zero vibrations.

The main reason I had vibrations were because of the severely worn out upper control arms and cv axles. They were shot. The alignment prior to replacing the worn out parts were still within spec, but after I got all the parts replaced, the alignment is now spot on where it should be. Hunter Laser Alignment rack is the best alignment rack.

Very satisfied! Parts costed me a total of about $450, and my coworker replaced all the parts and did an alignment, all for $250 at work. If I went through the shop, it would have costed me $1,300 just in labor. So I am very happy.
