Questions about AWD
I have a 1995 blazer with AWD, and I cannot tell ifthe AWD systemis working. From my understanding, it is supposed to transfer traction to the front wheels when it feels the back slip. I have had this vehicle for 4 years, and have gotten stuck several times in places that would be no problem for a normal 4wd vehicle. Is there any kind of test that I can do to see if the AWD system is actually working? I think this is somewhat of a rare option for the blazer, so if anyone has any experience with this please reply.
thanks

I think it has the same AWD system as my 97 bravada. It is normally 65% rear and 35% front for the torque spread. It will transfer the power to the front more if the rear spin or vice versa. If its like snow and ice you will still get stuck and im sure mud would do the same even with a working system. That is unless you have some really aggresive tires. There are really only two test I can think of jack and support all corners and hope it will lock to 100% on one axle or get stuck and see if everything is spinning. From what ive seen about this package it will generally only lock to 100% to the rear most of the time due to the larger normal power and the fact the front differential cant handle 100% for long. The AWD is good for roads but not great for deep snow or off roading.
